The last day of school is right around the corner, and the school year is over. Packed schedules and hectic days often present additional challenges.

Join me as I describe two kids’ personalities, taking apart their behaviors and preferences. Then, we’ll replace frustration and confusion with clarity and connection as I’ll teach you about right/left brain learning preferences and strategies that support each type of mind.

Are you familiar with this? >>>

Zissy:

If I ever have to cancel last minute and don’t have a chance to let Zissy know, she’s upset and disoriented. She overanalyzes and can’t make a decision since, logically everything has its benefits, so how can she possibly pick one? Zissy zooms in on information and gets lost in the details. Analytical and skilled with numbers, she possesses strong language skills, yet lacks intuition and free-flowing creativity.

Hmm, this is challenging. 😓

Eli:

Eli is all over the place, always searching for something novel. Never a dull moment around here! Spontaneous and unplanned, schedules and projects are hard to complete since they all get done the night before they’re due. He has brilliant ideas, but leaves to little time for them. Concepts are well understood; his comprehension is deep, but details are often overlooked as he focuses on the big picture.

Hmm, this is challenging. 😓

Ever felt stumped? (You’re not the only one!)

Have you ever wished to balance out two children so that the abilities and struggles of each one offset those of the other? Optimal brain balance is not just a wish; it’s real! The right and left brain hemispheres each have their unique roles and responsibilities. Balanced learners can utilize the benefits of each brain hemisphere on demand, switching between last-minute, creative, right-brained problem-solving one minute, than following through detailed  long-term projects using left-brained organizational abilities.

Those with strong dominance in one brain hemisphere, (hey, that’s many of us! 😁) often feel stuck.

Here are some simple, effective strategies to implement:

Your very scheduled, organized kid hates a schedule change. (Did you know that one’s a left-brainer? It’s a no-brainer, pun intended. 😁)

***Let them know of schedule changes ahead of time. This respects their need to be on top of their schedule to avoid feeling flustered.

***Yet, do something novel and unexpected often, such as changing seats, working in a different room, doing your lesson in a different sequence, sharing an unexpected treat at the end, or playing a quick game. Hence, they learn to handle the unexpected.

Your creative, imaginative child has a challenge recalling new terms and getting the details. And help! Dreaded tests are coming up!

***Use visualization and imagination, two right brain strengths, to connect to new terms and concepts. Have them draw the word using humor and color, and they’ll connect the term with its meaning.

***Stuck? Go from the big picture or main idea to the details so information makes sense and has mental hooks helping the details stick.

Wait, there’s so much more than these.

Did you know that doodling promotes right-brained activity?

And that logic puzzles are great at building left-brain connections?

And are you wondering 🤔

…If there are physical activities that can strengthen right and left-brain connections?

…Or which strategies are recommended for right or left brain learners, respectively, so they balance out?

…What about solid strategies to support each type of brain dominance?

Introducing:
